Rajneesh
His name is Rajneesh. No. Not the Bhagwan. The pani-puriwallah in Ritchie street. He is about 10 years old and always looks nervous. Its natural, bcaus his tamil vocabulary gets exhausted with a few words like 'ettanna' 'oru plate moonu roobai' etc. And to add to his discomfort are the local urchins who think he is from another planet.
I felt sorry for him and tried to ease his discomfort by talking to him in Hindi. My effort didnt seem to have any effect as his replies were only in monosyllables. But today when I asked him why there was hardly any pani in his pot, he unexpectedly gave me a long-winded explanation - how and why he brings the pani in a can, how much the pot holds, the size of the puris etc. I left after talking to him about UP and Allahabad.
I know I cant do anything for the kid. But talking to him will make him feel good at least for some time.

Surely, he must have felt glad to have atleast one attentive listener. You definitely seem to have made his day. Now, you can look forward for fresh pani puris in the days to come.
